Pride Marches On 🏳️‍🌈

This year we’ve created a new rainbow design we call “Pride Marches On.” There is no happier time for us every year than the kick-off to Pride season. It’s the time of year we get to reconnect with so many of our friends, from all over the world. We make it a point to visit and explore different cities—and to be a tourist here in The Netherlands, our adopted home country. We go to all these different Pride events, festivals and marches feeling full of joy and feeling safe—protected by the sheer number of LGBTQI people and allies all around us. We’re there for each other. We’re a family.

With this pandemic wreaking havoc on so many aspects of society, Pride may feel different this year—there are no big events, Pride marches or colorful stages—but we cannot let it be different. We must continue to raise our voices and fight to advance progress—to make sure LGBTQI people have a place in this world, are protected and feel safe. Even if we must do it all from our own homes.

We are sad. We miss our big happy non-biological chosen family. We also know this simple truth: it gets better. It will get better.

Last year, we created a special collection of t-shirts—“Pride and Prejudice”—for a museum exhibit that is part of the annual Pride at the Beach celebration in Zandvoort. We donated €5 from every “Pride and Prejudice” t-shirt we sold (plus 100% of the sales price from a special edition t-shirt we created) to raise a total of €630.

Today, LGBTQI organizations need our support more than ever. That’s why this year, we will double our donation – €10 from every “Pride Marches On” t-shirt we sell – to support Rainbow Railroad, an outstanding organization whose mission is to help persecuted LGBTQI individuals from places where they face state-enabled harassment and violence as they seek a safe haven. Since 2006, Rainbow Railroad has helped more than 800 individuals escape to safety and freedom. You can read more on them and their life-saving work below.

The world feels very heavy right now and we firmly stand with everyone protesting and raising their voices. Black Lives Matter. We must create the kind of change necessary to ensure that is the case in our laws and our systems. We also know that critical work to support LGBTQI people is needed now more than ever, especially in places where being who you are is illegal and even punishable by death.

Happy Pride to everyone. As we said last year, let’s always strive to love, support and be good to each other. Let’s remember and give thanks to those who paved the hard road on which we continue to march today. Let’s continue to fight prejudice and end stigma wherever and whenever we witness it. And of course, let’s do all we can to Spread Happy.

– Justin and Matt

Please note: “Pride Marches On” will only be available for sale until 31 August 2020.

The below is an excerpt from RainbowRailroad.org:

“In countries all over the world, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and intersex (LGBTQI) people live in basic fear for their freedom, their safety and their lives. They often have nowhere to turn because their government and police not only tolerate but encourage this brutality.

Rainbow Railroad exists to help these people get out of danger to somewhere safe. In the spirit of and with homage to the Underground Railroad, the mission of Rainbow Railroad is to help LGBTQI people as they seek safe haven from state-enabled violence, murder or persecution. Through funds collected by people like you, we’re able to support, provide information, and help to arrange safe transportation for these LGBTQI people to somewhere in the world where they can live their lives in freedom.”
